Chapter I : Ionic Motors.
Updated: Oct 25
Tiffany:
She couldn’t remember the last time she laughed just for the sake of laughing or when she found herself having a good time. She was done with Robert’s excuses and the endless bickering. She was ready for a new life and yet she feared starting over. Their relationship ended some time ago between the affair, and now, Tiffany’s barrenness.
“Dan wants to make me his lead engineer for Ionic Motors!” Robert beamed.
“Ionic? As in Ionic Motors in California?” Tiffany asked from her vanity as she applied her lip balm.
“Yes, Tiffany it will be good for us! He is offering three times the price of the shop.”
“Your family’s business!? No, you can’t sell to him Robert. Your father worked his butt off for that shop.”
“Tiff, come on! It’s time we let it go. The shop isn’t making enough anymore. We can barely afford Samuel’s school tuition. This isn’t about you. This isn’t about me. Its for him.” Robert pleaded as if he really cared about Tiffany’s opinion.
“We need something more for us, for Samuel. “Dan is offering me three times—”
“As in Daniel Greene from Milton High? Absolutely not! HELL NO! Dan is nothing but a two-faced snake. You gotta know that by now right?” Tiffany sprayed perfume behind her ears and on her wrists.
“He never even apologized for asking me to prom behind your back!”
“Ahh, Tiff, you are stuck in the past! Daniel isn’t like that now!” Robert pleaded.
“Really?” Tiffany scoffed. “Or what about the time we bailed him out of jail for stealing Mrs. Lacey’s credit card to buy new rims? That man is crooked Robert! He has never been nothing but trouble.“
Tiffany noticed Robert grab his phone and start scrolling through social media. She hated when he tried to tune her out.
“Robert!” she yelled. He looked up from his phone. “Why on earth do you want to do business with him? He used you through high school and sounds to me he is probably looking to use you again. Things are fine in Wilmington, don’t mess up our lives on a whim.”
Tiffany said in spite of herself.
“This isn’t some whim, Tiffany. This is our future.”
Robert looked at her with disappointment.
“End of discussion! You’re not selling your family’s business. Leave it alone.” Tiffany rubbed hand cream into her palms before getting into bed.
That was last night. It wasn’t until today, that she found out, Robert closed that deal and sold all the rights to shop earlier in the month.
“Start packing,” he demanded. “and I don’t want to hear anything else about it.”
She didn’t think her life could get any worse and now she was being forced to live in the land of faked-boobed bimbos and Hollyweird cokeheaded freaks. She grabbed her keys and jetted out the front door. She thought maybe a night out under the stars beside the waves would help but all she wanted to do was drive her car into the waves and hope they carry her to some hidden faraway island.
A place where she could really start over. Further and further down the highway she went. Speeding down the Michael Jordan Fwy with her thoughts mixed up like scrambled eggs. 80..85..92.. the speedometer increased intensely. Tiffany was now at 108miles per hour. She glanced in her rear mirrors
“FUCKING GREAT!” she yelled.
The flashing blue lights was just what she needed. Maybe they would let her go with a warning, besides Sheriff Golds was real good friends of the family. She gathered herself and tried to slow down to pull over when she noticed her car continued to increase in speed. 109..111..”Goodbye Tiffany” she heard a voice from her radio.
Her heart began to race. She tried honking the horn but no sounds came out. The cop turned on his sirens. She couldn’t pull over, cars darted out the way as the car wheel jerked from side to side. “Help please !!” she screamed.
Her windows wouldn’t roll down.
“Help!” She reached for her phone but it dropped between the driver seat and the center console. She tussled underneath her seat for her phone as she continued braking but the car only increased in speed. Tears ran frantically down her cheeks, she attempted to unbuckle her seat belt but the clamp had somehow jammed. Tiffany was trapped. She let go of the steering wheel and closed her eyes raising her hands above her head. Zipping faster and faster until the car swerved and ran off the top of the bridge, crashing into the open water.
---
"Another deadly crash occurred today near the coasts of Wilmington, North Carolina. Is Ionic Motors in trouble? Reporter John Khamen live from the coast."
“She just kept on speeding! I put my flashers on and my sirens but that car wouldn’t stop. I saw her put both her hands in the air! That woman wasn’t holding that wheel!” The officer stated in a clip news clip.
“The love of my life is gone.” Robert managed to say over his sobs.
